At Bury Libraries we are delighted to be part of the National Year of Reading 2008. Bury Libraries have always supported national and regional Reader Development initiatives, and we operate a continuously evolving programme of lively, innovative, in-house activities; all organised and monitored by our Reader Development Librarian who is supported by an enthusiastic Reader Development Team.

We are fortunate to have a number of long-running and well-attended reading groups including which enjoy a wide-ranging selection of reads generating some lively discussions. To find a reading group please click on the following link:

Staff involvement at all levels is positively encouraged, and all ideas and suggestions are welcomed. All staff are welcome to contribute to the recommended reads page on the libraries' website.

Our broad objectives are to encourage reading and interest in the written word, and to stimulate library use and issues. We welcome all Bury residents and non-residents to the library and with an interesting programme of activities, the National Year of Reading is an opportunity to welcome new members to the library and reach sections of the community who might not use the library regularly.
