Reader developments plays an increasingly important role in the development of Cumbria Libraries. It has been highlighted as a way in which all staff can engage in providing and enriching the reading experience in all our libraries. It can be used as a vital tool in selling our library services to existing and potential users, through various mediums including making new technologies work for us. Cumbria is committed to a professional approach to reader development to boost confidence of our staff, our readers, reinvigorate the service and stock, improve our image and along the way attract a new generation of users.
Reading groups collections A central service for groups to register and take advantage of multiple loan copies of recommended books for loan with extended loan periods. More titles are increasingly added to extend the collection.
Stock newsletter A quarterly newsletter from the stock management team, primarily aimed at staff, bringing details of the best in great books, local author publications, good reading... Staff can place their comments, recommend stock for their own library and generally have their say on stock in Cumbria libraries.
Website for reader development support For those staff tackling ECDL a support site for reader development has been established.
