Halton Libraries takes a pro-active approach to reader development work to create the best possible reading experience for everyone.

Halton Libraries provide lively, welcoming spaces for readers, a wide range of stock, attractive book promotion furniture and trained staff who are confidently able to talk to readers about their reading choices. All libraries have a dedicated 'Quick Choice', face on display for readers in a hurry.

We provide a wide range of reading based activities that are designed to create opportunities for people to share their reading experiences including World Book Day events and Relax into Reading sessions.

Halton Libraries host a number of organised reading groups. We support them with sets of books and reading group leaders and we hold a 'Halton Book of the Year' award event.

Our full programme of events is designed to attract non-library users into the service but will always have a reading/books element built in.

We take an active role in local reading activities such as the Halton Literature Festival, the Homotopia Festival and support national reading campaigns and literary prizes such as The Six Book Challenge, World Book Day, the Orange Prize, National Poetry Day and the Man Booker Prize.

Halton Libraries have an very active core of young people who are involved in various library project such as 'Headspace' and are very pro active in a volunteering role including supporting events and activities in the library.

Halton Library service have fully embraced Web2.0 technologies to promote services, engage with users and believe that social media have great potential to enhance the delivery of library services.
