Welcome to Oldham's page. We have a very busy year ahead, celebrating the National Year of Reading and we're planning heaps of reading and writing activities.
Oldham has an excellent reputation for literature and reader development, managed by a Literature Development Officer, who organises the annual Literature Festival. Authors and poets are invited to give readings and run workshops with adults, young people and children during the festival. Additional promotions and events are organised through the year also
All library staff are trained in literature development and this enables them to actively promote literature to customers. Oldham has 3 Writers Groups and 9 Reader's Groups including 2 Reader's Groups for Urdu and Bangla speaking customers and one for Visually Impaired Users. We are currently working with Oldham Theatre Workshop and Oldham Coliseum to establish a Young Writers group to meet regularly in the library starting in September.
Oldham Libraries launched its own Literature Development site within the OMBC website in September 2003.
This has details of events, readers and writers groups, and book and author recommendations with web links to other literature and publisher's sites. It has interactive facilities. Listings of upcoming reading promotions and events are available with a chance to have a peek at what we have done in the past.
