Reader development work in Wirral is based around a very active programme of book displays and promotions linking in with key calendar events and activity programmes. A number of displays and book collections are circulated regularly between libraries to ensure an active and changing back drop to encourage new and wider reading.

With 24 libraries to choose from there is always a number of events occurring throughout the borough. This ranges from informal coffee mornings, Gardeners question times, Chinese New year celebrations or national events such as world book day.

We are very proud of the growing number of book groups in a significant number of libraries throughout the Wirral, here readers will get together in a library setting to discuss new books or a particular title.

A teenage reading group at Wallasey central library is the first for young people but plans are in hand to develop both family and children's reading groups.

For Information on events and library contacts see our web-site. Go to: www.wirral-libraries.net/reviews for a chance to look at current reviews and opinions of pupils on the shortlisted novels which they are reading as part of Wirral`s school paperback award. This is an annual event organised by the Schools library Service where yr 8 and 9 pupils are encouraged to read widely and choose their favourite title from a shortlist of 20 new paperbacks. Past award winners have included Anne Fine and Anthony Horowitz.

A Readers link connected to our existing library website is now live. This holds current information on local book groups, links useful websites, new stock information and an ongoing list of reading activities.
