Crime writer Margeret Murphy getting ideas for her next thriller at the Wirral Readers Day?

Wirral now has 20 thriving reading groups in local libraries. We have been following the Big Read both with our groups and also in individual libraries, with displays, exhibitions and simply by encouraging people to read the listed titles during the period and finally asking them to vote on line. We have seen the interest in our groups rise from a small beginning of 6 groups to 15 and now 20.

During the Focus week we held a Festive Readers Day ostensibly to encourage some exchange of ideas between reading groups as well as giving us all an opportunity to meet like minded book people, authors and library staff. It was a great mingling of thoughts and ideas and hopefully this will be the first of many where carol singing, mince pies and mulled wine provide a gentle background to the cut and thrust of book discussions quizzes and book buying and borrowing.

On Monday 1st December Radio Merseyside gave us a slot to promote the event on the Roger Phillips' show as part of their Big Read focus which was an excellent opportunity to reach a wider audience. Subsequently we had a very busy and successful first Readers Day.
