Stockport and Tameside Readers' Day
The authors.
March 13th saw the first Readers' Day for Stockport and Tameside Libraries. Over 125 people came to Stockport College to hear six authors talk about their reading and writing. The authors were crime writers Martyn Bedford and Chris Simms, travel writer Polly Evans, poets James Nash and Rommi Smith and sports writer Tom Palmer. The local Borders Books store came along to sell books by the authors and they were very pleased with the amount sold.
There were readers testimonies from people in reading groups in Stockport - Marion from Cheadle Hulme Library reading group and Joan Skelton who facilitates the reading group that meets at Bredbury Library but is also in a group with friends called the Famous Five. The Famous Five had just been featured on the Richard and Judy show discussing the William Dalrymple book White Moghals as part of their book club.
Feedback from the delegates on the day and since, has been extremely positive with comments such as:
"This is an excellent way of bringing a large and varied number of readers together socially. I always enjoy meeting and hearing from the authors".
"I thoroughly enjoyed the day. It was well organised, friendly and interesting".
"Excellent from start to finish".
