How far can you travel in a day? 500 miles? 1,000 miles? 4,000 miles? With Warrington Library, Museum and Archives Service you can travel:

Around the World and back!

Woman and girl smile at mask wearer.

That's exactly what happened on Saturday, 20th May when visitors to our central Library and Museum building embarked on a multi-cultural voyage of imagination and discovery during Adult Learners' Week.

Starting here in England those who followed our unique trail were transported to far away lands through Asia, Egypt and Africa for an unforgettable learning experience!

Visitors took a step back in time discovering our wide range of family and local history archives whilst others journeyed across the miles exploring Google Earth and our vast array of online resources - bringing foreign lands right onto computer screens!

Girl wrapping sari around herself.

They were tantalised by our exotic workshops and colourful, rich hands-on exhibits - including the chance to try on a sari!

"I really enjoyed making the clay tiles because I never realised a comb would be so useful" was the delighted response from one woman after completing a ceramic tile inspired by Carved Earth, an exhibition of sculptural ceramics by Halima Cassell.

Children laugh as they watch drummer.

"Good to have a chance to participate as an adult and to be encouraged to do so". Drawing from her African/Ghanian background, Misoshi brought global awareness alive - captivating audiences through her storytelling and music - sharing one of her drum performances with a visitor who owned a drum similar to Misoshi's.

"What a brilliant way to get people into the library":echoed the evaluation feedback we received confirming the day was enjoyable with many people learning new information and developing skills.

"Now I would like to know more about other countries". All of those who managed to complete our world trail and hand in their evaluation forms received a jam-packed goodie bag - which doubled as a handy carrier to take home some of the fantastic books we had on display to satisfy the appetite of our inspired travellers.
