Armistead Maupin came to Liverpool on 4th July
Homotopia is Liverpool's annual arts festival featuring the lesbian and gay communities, staged in November. As a special foretaste of the new literary strand, which will see events in libraries across Merseyside, the festival organizers teamed up with Time To Read and Liverpool Libraries to present Armistead Maupin at St George's Hall on 4th July.

Armistead Maupin read from his latest book Michael Tolliver Lives. He appeared in the newly refurbished Small Concert Room - the same venue where Charles Dickens gave his famous 'Penny Readings' in the mid-nineteenth century.
For all those lucky to be present at the event, it was one of the cultural highlights of 2007. Armistead Maupin was warm, generous and thoroughly entertaining and the audience were spellbound by his natural gift for storytelling and wicked sense of humour. Over 450 attended the sell-out event.
Armistead said "I had a wonderful time in Liverpool and was really touched by the warmth and generosity of the people I met there. It was a great honour for me to speak in the same venue where Charles Dickens had given a reading so many years before. I hope it won't be long before I can return for a longer stay".
Wednesday 4th July 2007 will be remembered by many who met Maupin as something rather special.
