Working with young people in Warrington

We're working on engaging and involving young people in library services and this is a round up of recent and current activities.
Bibliotekz is a teenage focus group that grew out of Fulfilling Their Potential. They have been involved with:
- setting up stock promotions
- buying books
- designing publicity
- designing and carrying out surveys
- mystery shopping in a library
- re-designing and furnishing the teen section in a library
A project with the museum looking at WW2, which involves promotion and display on the theme of children at war. They're looking at archives and have been on a visit to the Imperial War Museum North.
They are a lively group, bursting with energy and ideas. You can see their presentation at
The Youth Council contains pupils from 6 secondary schools who are currently working on the National Youth Offer for Libraries under the auspices of The Reading Agency.
- One group is making a film for YouTube and the Groupthing website to promote libraries to young people
- The other group is doing a poster campaign and the text of the Offer for the website
- They are also working with us to design an activities programme for young people in libraries and have recently given us feedback on the Facebook® promotion "Now that's what I call reading"
Volunteers are helping with the summer reading challenge "Questseekers", summer holiday activities in libraries and playdays.
We are really fortunate to be working alongside such great young people and to have lots of involvement with our Secondary Strategy Consultant for English and schools staff.
