"The Corner" is revealed at Kirkby Library
In 2009 young people in Kirkby were successful in their application to Big Deal (Youth Opportunities Fund), to create a teenage space in Kirkby Library. They have worked with the staff to design the space, select stock and choose furniture for their area. The area named "The Corner" by the young people has literally turned a corner of Kirkby Library into a vibrant, active and comfortable space to be.
It was launched by the young people who, with the staff, had organised a celebration. The books, magazines and games they had selected were all on display and activities such as table football, X Box gaming, hand massage and CD Cover design were all very popular. X Box gaming sessions will now be held on a regular basis. Over 50 young people attended and comments to the question "What did you most enjoy about today" included:
- "Everything, it was amazing"
- "The x-box was great"
- "This is boss isn't it"
- "Playing the x-box and meeting new people"
- "I liked the Subway buffet and I liked the competitions going on. Overall I enjoyed everything"
