The National Year of Reading got off to a good start with a launch event at Everton Football Club on 11 April, hosted by Anthony Horowitz. This was followed by the Orange Broadband National Readers' Day at the Bluecoat, which attracted an audience of almost 200 people.
Mal Peet, author of this year's Liverpool Reads titles, paid a return visit to Central Library for a question and answer session about his work. Mal was also helping to celebrate European Good Neighbour Day, with events at Norris Green and Walton community libraries and local venues in the north of the city. The next day Mal visited HMP Liverpool for a very well-received, interactive session with members of the Prison reading groups.
4th June saw the Orange Broadband Prize for Fiction evening at Childwall community library; it attracted a lively audience with readings from the shortlisted books, and prize voting for favourites.
