First Break Writing Competition in partnership with Oldham Coliseum Theatre

We are really pleased with the huge response to this competition and have had over 60 entries! Judging took place in February and three winners will have their work performed as part of the Coliseum's new 'First Break' programme in May 2013 and the overall winner will receive continuing support from Oldham Coliseum.

Budding scribes from all over the country had to write the first ten pages of a script on the theme of 'place' - whether that be Oldham or further afield was their decision!

The competition has been promoted to all our readers and writers groups who have entered and we are really excited to learn that there have also been entries from library staff...

We really enjoyed being on the judging panel along with award winning writer Cathy Crabb, the facilitator of Oldham's Writing Cafe Amanda Carr and Oldham Coliseum's Head of Participation, Richard Hall.

It was great to see people turn out on a cold, blustery winter evening to solve crime at Oldham Library! The audience had fun interrogating suspects and solving the clues and rated the evening as 100% excellent. The After Dark Murder Company who hosted the evening was indeed excellent!

Jonathan Harvey

Over 30 people came to see this award-winning TV and Film Writer talking about his debut novel All That She Wants. Jonathan, writer of Gimme Gimme Gimme and ITV's Great Night Out had a great sense of humour and had the audience in stitches. As a Coronation Street writer, he also thrilled the audience with some gossip from the cobbles!
