News from library authorities:
Salford
For the first World Book Night on Saturday 5th March 2011, a team of staff from Salford Libraries and Information Service took 500 World Book Night books to the Lowry theatre in Salford to give out, for free to unsuspecting theatre visitors.

No sooner had we opened the first box of books to unpack onto our table in the foyer area, than we were inundated with people responding with comments such as 'Are these books?' Many of the people who took a free book were incredibly pleased and we discovered that a great number of them had heard about the new initiative either via the media or through word of mouth. The books were given out in just under an hour by ten enthusiastic members of staff who offered good advice to the public when they were asked 'Which one shall I pick?'

Pictured is a Library and Information Assistant from Swinton library giving one of the free books, 'Killing Floor' by Lee Child to a member of the Lowry theatre staff and three young ladies who all took away a free World Book Night book each.
