News from library authorities:

Sefton

June Francis at Crosby

June Francis.

On 10th July Sefton Libraries hosted an event with local saga author June Francis at Crosby Library. The event celebrated the paperback publication of Tilly's Story, the 25th novel of June's publishing career.

June delivered a fascinating talk which reflected on her 27 years as a professional author. She recalled her early magazine articles and writing for Mills & Boon, before progressing to her popular series of novels based in Merseyside and Chester.

The talk offered an illuminating insight into how historical research informs June's writing. Her son read extracts from the Liverpool Echo in the 1930s and June then read the parallel passages from her books into which the historic details had been woven. Sefton Libraries' Local History service contributed to the event by preparing displays of historic photos featuring locations that appear June's novels. Bookselling support was provided by local independent booksellers, Pritchards.

Award winning author Frank Cottrell Boyce also visited Crosby Civic Hall recently, as part of the promotional tour for the paperback version of his latest book - Cosmic

Nearly 400 hundred children and young people from across Sefton attended the two author sessions. They listened intently as Frank spoke about his screen writing career and read from his novels Millions and Cosmic.

The audience were given an insight into the process of turning a novel into a film; Frank has just finished filming his second novel 'Framed', he spoke about the art of writing a screen play as opposed to a book, the casting process and working with young actors.

At the end of both sessions the audience were offered the chance to purchase a copy of one of Frank's books, courtesy of Pritchard Bookshops, which he then signed.
