Celebrity comes to the library!!!

Johnny Vegas came to Central Library on 1st May as part of the Unison celebrations for Liverpool Capital of Culture. Johnny talked about the book 'The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists' by Robert Tressell and how it had influenced his life. He is currently working on a dramatisation of the book for Radio 4 which will be broadcast in June.
Andy Lynch who adapted the book for this radio production was also present, and gave some interesting insights into the problems of adapting a long novel into a 3 hour radio dramatisation.

Johnny was happy to answer many varied questions from the audience, and signed copies of the book afterwards. It was a fascinating evening - particularly as it was so far removed from the brash image that Johnny v. usually presents!
May is 'Mind and Body' month of course, for National Year of Reading, so we've had several excellent events at libraries.
Haydock Library had an Indian Head Massage and reflexology session - with accompanying book displays and refreshments.
Thatto Heath library held a healthy living day, with advice from local health trainers and general information about the Books on Prescription scheme.
Clare Campbell of 'Wild Woman' came to Rainhill - and managed to get the whole audience involved in giving neck and back massages and general stress relief - (with the help of chocolate!). The library was decorated with fairy lights and purple drapes to create the right ambience and the event attracted an audience of 27 people. Clare is truly an inspiration - and several members of the audience were quite moved by the experience.
