Tameside
Library staff have been working with colleagues from the Hattersley Neighbourhood Partnership for the past year on a major project, The Mancunian Reunion. Residents of Hattersley were asked to discuss and write about their experiences of moving from inner city areas of Manchester to Tameside and from photographs and memories, a DVD and book have been produced which tell the story of the community - from their experiences of 1960's Manchester to their new life in Tameside and beyond. Short extracts from books such as Our Kid by Billy Hopkins were used to bring back memories of life as it was and kick start conversations.

Father's Day in Tameside was designated a Read to Dad Day. All children had to do to be entered into a prize draw was to tell us what book they were going to share with their dad, or grandad, on Father's Day.

Two competitions are being run over the summer, fitting in with the National Year of Reading theme for June, Reading Escapes. Extreme Reads asks readers to send us a photograph of people reading in extreme or unusual places. It was launched by Tameside's Executive Director for Services for Children and Young People, Ian Smith, from the top of a church tower. Where in the world has your book gone on holiday? is in the form of a prize draw. Readers sending us a postcard will be entered into a draw to win one of 3 great prizes.
