National Poetry Day Toolkit
PURPOSE
The purpose of National Poetry Day is to raise awareness of poetry and encourage participation in reading, writing and performing poetry. The Poetry Society itself focuses effort into getting poetry broadcast on radio and/or television.The media are aware of National Poetry Day and are often looking around for unusual, wacky events to cover. I have found it to be one of the easier events to get the media interested in if you are doing something above and beyond a straightforward poetry reading.
Librarians in the North West have pioneered partnership working to encourage new readers into libraries. Time To Read is a partnership of librarians engaged in reader development activity in public library authorities in the North West Region. All 23 public library authorities in the region currently support Time To Read.
