Readers' Groups Made Simple
Advertising for new groups/ members
Don't do all of this at once, you might get swamped with enquiries, but some or all of the list below could be considered.
- Inform library staff and encourage them to talk to readers
- Posters and leaflets in library
- Inform any other groups that meet in the library already
- Notice on library website
- E mail or text message, if your library service does this
- Poster/leaflets in local bookshop
- Posters/leaflets in other local venues- post office, churches etc.
- If targeting particular communities what communication channels are there already? E.g. community centres, websites, Facebook ® Groups, targeted service providers
- Local newspapers/ radio
- Leaflets through doors
- Word of mouth/flyers at other events
For individuals not working in libraries, you may find your service can help with most of the above.

Librarians in the North West have pioneered partnership working to encourage new readers into libraries. Time To Read is a partnership of librarians engaged in reader development activity in public library authorities in the North West Region.
