Readers' Groups Made Simple
Ideas for Discussion- when everyone has read the same book
- First impressions
- Did you enjoy the book? Why/why not?
- What hooked you in? Or at which point in the book did you get hooked in?
- Does the cover reflect the content?
- Which characters did you like/dislike and why?
- Did you have a favourite passage or part of the story?
- What did you think of the descriptions of place?
- Would you read another book by this author
- If comparing 2 or more, can you tell they are by the same author? How?
- Which book on this theme was the most enjoyable/the most informative?
Sometimes discussion can flag or wander away from the book. Simple techniques for getting people back on track include saying something like:
- coming back to the book...
- Shall we each read a favourite passage?
- read out information about the author and the period of time they are writing in, if that is relevant.
