Sarah Hymas

BIOGRAPHY
Sarah Hymas is a poet and short story writer.
She has published her work as single collections, in anthologies, magazines, pamphlets and multimedia exhibits around the UK. Her first collection of poetry, Bedrock, is due out in winter 2009, with Waterloo Press.
She has collaborated with two other writers. They became 3dV, and performed live literature poetry-tellings around the northwest for five years. She was poet in residence for Calderdale Libraries between 2003-2005, where she worked closely with library staff, a photographer and painter to promote the benefits of reading. Now she is collaborating with the musician, Steve Lewis, on powerful soundscapes and also working on a collection of poems exploring the 100 year life of a family business.
She has recently written a cabaret play, I Wish You Love, for Gambolling Arena, which premiered at The Unity in Liverpool, July 2009.
As publishing development manager for Litfest, she edits their publishing imprint Flax, a pioneering publishing venture of digital, readable, entertaining and beautiful anthologies.

Sarah published 'Closet Collection' a short story collection in 1995.
Her poetry has appeared in UK magazines, including, The British Council’s New Writing 15, Magma, The Rialto, Tadeeb, Keystone, Staple, Tears in the FenceRain Dog, The Leeds Guide, Orbis, Agenda, The Slab, Smiths Knoll, Shadowtrain, The Art of Love exhibition, London, The Dukes 2003 Christmas programme, Cadenza, Raconteur. Her first poetry collection, Bedrock, is due out with Waterloo Press winter 2009
She has written the libretto for the improvised opera Flocking, comissioned by the Lancaster Jazz Festival 2006 and the script for I Wish You Love, a conversation between Marlene Dietrich and Edith Piaf. She also write the lyrics for Afro-pop band DC Dansette.
She has performed with musician Steve Lewis around the North West as Hymas&Lewis, with the writing trio, 3dV and solo as a puppeteer and poet, promoted by Apples and Snakes and other organisations.

Sarah has facilitated writing and performance workshops since 1998 in a variety of settings, including adult education, primary schools, prisons, libraries, community groups and with undergraduates.
