World Book Night in Tameside

Posted Friday 15 May 2015 by Victoria Heyes in Latest Libraries News

Tameside Libraries' staff were among those handing out books on World Book Night - an annual celebration when volunteers try to get people reading.

Last year, nearly 100 copies of Andy McNab’s book “Everything Changes” were given to adult literacy students. Many said they were able to read, enjoy and finish a book for the first time and that a new world had been opened up for them.

To tie in with the “Just 6 Minutes” message that reading can be an effective stress-reducer, the books handed out this year were uplifting titles including “The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry” by Rachel Joyce. They were distributed at Dukinfield and Droylsden libraries in sessions organised by Tameside and Glossop Healthy Minds Service.

Staff also provided books for 22 volunteers to give out.
