  • What an utterly refreshing approach to a business book.

    I was on page 98 of a Malcolm Gladwell book when I picked up Battlefield 2 Boardroom, and in all of those pages he had made 1 major point and a couple of minor related points, illustrated with story after story. Malcolm’s an interesting writer, but OMG I got the point by page 20, please move on.

    Battlefield 2 Boardroom is the complete opposite, and as I said, it is a totally refreshing approach. It treats me like an adult - Jay Allen makes a point, illustrates it with a relevant anecdote from the Army, links to academic research where appropriate, and then moves on. Gone is all the long winded whaffle common to so many business writers who have a word target. Thanks Mr Allen, finally there is someone who realises that I don’t need the same point drumming into me endlessly.

    Not only does the author treat me like an adult who doesn’t need endless repetition, he also respects my time. I read and digested the whole book in a few hours. My time is valuable, and he treated it as such.

    Jay Allen’s approach is not revolutionary, but he condenses into 128 pages the essential steps that all businesses need to get right to succeed. His unique approach is how well the business processes he talks about map to military processes and his army experience.

    There is absolutely no doubt that any entrepreneur or small/medium business (which I think is the target audience) will benefit from reading the book and following the logical steps set out in it. In fact, as well as getting the book, the reader gets access to online tools and extras on Jay Allen’s website which are referenced at the end of relevant chapters.

    If you’re running a company and want to understand how to apply tried and tested approaches to getting growth expressed with simple clarity and a complete lack of waffle then buy this book now.
