The Other Fella

John Fagan

The Second World War has finally ended and the residents of Brook Street (Brookie) in the Merseyside shipbuilding town of Birkenhead, begin picking up the threads of normality. Charlie Reilly, a docker with a fierce temper and even firmer views on life, lives in the neighbourhood with his wife and four children. Charlie’s belief in applying Victorian values to his family’s lifesyle is bad news for Jimmy, the eldest boy and ’Other Fella’ in the Reilly household, who is more interested in roaming the streets with his friends, the rest of the Brook Street gang, snubbing authority and getting into a continuous string of dodgy scrapes and conflicts.
