Speak with the Sun

Madeleine Keeffe

It is the summer of 1914. Owen is destined to become a doctor like his father and Ruth’s brother Edwin is his closest friend. Their charmed life is torn apart by the outbreak of war. Both men are sent to the Western Front. Appalled by the suffering he sees, Owen deserts his regiment as a conscientious objector and is sent to a military prison hospital, from where he writes to Ruth to explain his actions. His decision has a dramatic impact on his relationship with Ruth and their continuing love is challenged.
